Brief Bio
Carlos Agostinho is a Senior Researcher at UNINOVA center, he has an MsC in Computer Science and holds a PhD in the area of industrial information systems by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT/UNL). He is deeply involved in the areas of Product and Process Meta-modeling, Interoperability and Harmonization using Standards since his participation in projects like CEN/AIDIMA/2002/004 funSTEP AP-DIS and IST-2001-52224 SMART-fm. He is quite experienced in research and coordination activities due to his work in several national and international research and development projects in UNINOVA since 2001, where he developed skills in the areas of model-based and semantic interoperability applying MDA/MDI technologies.

SCOPE
Global competition and the uncertainty of markets have led organizations and technology to evolve exponentially. Business paradigms have changed from a standalone vision into complex and collaborative ecosystems. Within this context, the Future Internet (www.future-internet.eu) is highly likely to rise new opportunities for creativity and innovation. However, even though this demonstrates an enormous potential, issues such as sustainable interoperability (i.e., the interoperability that convenes the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future changes, meeting new system requirements, and performing adequate adaptation and suitable management of the transitory elements) are impairing a wider impact.
Based on systems engineering principles, modeling is seen as a central activity for the development and life cycle of a product, system, or even the enterprise. They formalize the bridge between the real and digital world and enable the necessary reasoning to enable a dynamic adaptation of the network’s devices, services and applications to the constant market changes.
The goal of this session is to present and discuss advances on MDA/MDI principles, such as architectures, tools, etc., able to support dynamic enterprise services and applications in the scope of a sustainable interoperability. The model-driven service engineering architecture from the MSEE project (www.msee-ip.eu/) to support manufacturing servitization, liquid-sensing enterprise developments from the OSMOSE project (http://osmose-project.eu/), or dynamic network enablers from the IMAGINE project (http://www.imagine-futurefactory.eu) are some examples for discussion. However, they are just a few among the contributions this special session aims to discuss.
