Title:

Enabling Sustainable Interoperability for Enterprise Applications with Knowledge Links

Authors:

Artur Felic, Felix Herrmann, Christian Hogrefe, Michael Klein and Birgitta König-Ries

Abstract: In complex and collaborative ecosystems like business networks, different partners need to share their respective expert knowledge in order to be successful. Due to the diversity of business applications and highly customized application suites used by business partners, knowledge exchange and the establishment of interoperability between enterprise applications is extremely difficult. Different representations and meanings of enterprise data lead to incomprehensibility between partners inside collaborative environments. This paper presents an model-driven approach to support sustainable interoperability for enterprise applications in collaborative environments. Based on an event-driven architecture, Knowledge Links enable dynamic modelling of knowledge transformations between knowledge domains. They keep background consistency between the connected domains, thus making enterprise applications interoperable. Knowledge Links can be created and modified at any time, which enables sustainable interoperability. Business partners are able to rely on their enterprise applications and don’t need to switch to another system. Sensitive data stays covert due to the nature of modular ontologies. The presented approach is exemplified in the context of the OSMOSE Project and will be evaluated by the proof-of-concept scenarios in this Project.

Model-driven Service Engineering Towards the Manufacturing Liquid-sensing Enterprise

Authors:

Carlos Agostinho, Michele Sesana, Ricardo Jardim-Gonçalves and Sergio Gusmeroli

Abstract: Information and communication technology (ICT) has facilitated the introduction of mass customisation capabilities into the traditional Enterprise, especially in the domain of manufacturing. Currently individual end-customers are allowed to design and order a product that is uniquely tailored to their preferences. Servitization and product-based services have been gaining momentum to support the integration of products and services with customers. This has enabled companies to maintain a competitive advantage in contemporary markets. However, such capabilities demand more efficient processes, information systems to enable resources optimization, maximized collaborations along the value chains, and interoperable information flows. The FInES Research Roadmap 2025 identifies both Sensing Enterprise and Liquid Enterprise as two Qualities of Being that are strategic for any future enterprise. In fact, the enterprise needs to become self-aware not only in terms of their networked ecosystem but also in face of their inner sub-systems and devices. This paper develops the concept of the liquid-sensing enterprise, exploring how modelling and model-driven development can support the transition and services implementation.

Modelling and Analysis of Process Execution based on Data Acquired from Sensors Networks

Authors:

Repta Dragos, Ioan Stefan Sacala, Mihnea Alexandru Moisescu, Calin Munteanu and Aurelian Mihai Stanescu

Abstract: This paper proposes a new approach for the analysis of physical processes. Based on several assumptions regarding the information available regarding the physical processes, we constrain the generation of the transition system. The method is based on the theory of regions that allows for the building compact representations as Petri Nets of transition systems and a set of explicit descriptions for some of the activities. The resulting compact model will exhibit the same behaviour as the input transition system. In order to evaluate the resulting process model, several quality dimensions have been established.

Title:

Modelling Services for Business Knowledge Capture

Authors:

Carlos Coutinho, Ruben Costa and Ricardo Jardim-Gonçalves

Abstract: The competition inherent to globalisation has led enterprises to gather in nests of specialised business providers with the purpose of building better applications and provide more complete solutions. This, added to the improvements on the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), led to a paradigm shift from product-centrism to service-centrism and to the need to communicate and interoperate. Traditional segments like banking, insurance and aerospace subcontract a large number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that are undergoing this change, and must ensure the criticality and accuracy of their business is not affected or impacted in any way. This also is an excellent motivation for improving the capabilities for capturing the knowledge about businesses, not only their processes and methods but also their surrounding environment. The EU co-funded FP7 TIMBUS project comprises tools and techniques to improve business continuity featuring an intelligent strategy for digital preservation of business assets and environments based on risk-management. This paper proposes the modelling of service-based business information capturing strategies to help in the proper establishment of a knowledge base that permits a seamless interoperability between enterprises.
